Every angler has a story about the one that got away, but with Nick Baggot it's a case of the fish that got away with a bit of his finger.

The RAF corporal struggled for half an hour to land a monster pike on the end of his line.

When he finally pulled the 15lb 8oz fish out of the water, weighing in at an impressive 15lbs 8oz, he struggled to remove the hook from its mouth.

Nick said: "I put my hand in and it decided to close its jaws. It wasn't a really bad bite, but I lost the tip of my finger. It's the biggest fish caught during the day, but I had to put it back.

"The old pike's still swimming around with a bit of me in its stomach."

He was one of ten airmen from RAF Brize Norton's Tactical Communications Wing (TCW) who took part in a 48-hour angling marathon at Faringdon Lake.

Despite his injury, Nick went on to be the outright winner of the charity contest, with 33lb of fish.
