A SMALL office in Witney is planning to make a big impact on fuel bills throughout the county.

The three staff who run Oxfordshire's Energy Efficiency Advice Centre hit the road on all cylinders later this month to promote a national drive to cut consumption.

There are special shows and advice centres at Bicester, Banbury, Witney and Wallingford to celebrate Energy Efficiency Week, from October 26 to November 1.

Oxfordshire's fuel-busting trio, Anne Smith,Jackie Williams and Gren Davies, moved to Witney several months ago from their previous centre in Oxford.

They now operate from West Oxfordshire District Council's offices at The Gables, New Yatt Road, and say they are looking forward to spreading the message with a week-long roadshow.

"There are some frightening environmental statistics associated with home energy conumsption," says Anne. "For example, if everyone who doesn't already have loft insulation installed it, the equivalent energy saving would be enough to justify closing down one nuclear power station."

They will visit the Homebase stores at West Way, Botley, on Saturday and Horspath Driftway, Cowley, on November 7, to push Government grant schemes for cavity wall and loft insulation insulation and upgrading home heating systems.

They will be at Bicester's Tesco car park on October 27, outside Banbury's Marks & Spencer on October 28, the Woolgate centre in Witney on October 29 and at Wallingford Town Hall on October 30.
