Oxford Utd Res 1, Spurs Res 4
OXFORD United Reserves gave a good account of themselves despite losing 4-1 to a star-studded Spurs side in last night's Avon Insurance Football Combination game at the Manor.
Woefully lacking height in defence, United were the equal of their skilful London opponents for the whole game, except in finishing.
Jamie Cook, Tony Wright and Danny Hill were outstanding in midfield for Oxford who fell behind after 23 minutes. Steffan Iversen headed a right-wing cross to Ross Darcy who scored at the second attempt.
Simon Weatherstone, a second half substitute for Joey Beauchamp, headed wide of an open goal from a Cook cross after 52 minutes and the miss was punished by Chris Arms- trong who tapped in Spurs' second.
Weatherstone reduced the lead from another Cook pass but Iversen put the match out of United's reach with two goals in the last 12 minutes.
Oxford Utd Res: Nelson, R Weatherstone, Powell (Davies 65), Hill, Rose, Lewis (Brennan 85), Beauchamp (S Weatherstone 45), Wright, Banger, Folland, Cook.
Tottenham Res: Walker, Kersey, Wilson, Darcy, Scales, Young, Gain, Dominguez, Iversen, Sinton, Armstrong.
