Oxford High School has earned itself a place in a top ten listing of the best 25 girls' independent schools in Britain.
The £1,380-a-term school, in Belbroughton Road, which has 1,000 pupils, has been ranked sixth in the country in a national poll of 500 boys and girls' schools based on their academic performance.
Three other Oxfordshire schools get high marks in the poll compiled for the Sunday Times newspaper, with the girls' school of St Helen and St Katharine in Abingdon in 11th position.
Best of the boys' schools is Radley College near Abingdon, which comes tenth in the top 25, while Abingdon School - the town's former grammar school - manages a creditable 22nd place.
