Dog rescuer William Walker thought bank bosses had gone barking mad when they paid £139,106 into his account by mistake.
William, 39, who runs the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Centre in Yarnton, was stunned when Barclays sent him a statement showing the charity's account had got a huge cash boost.
The animal lover, who has found homes for 28 unwanted Staffordshires in the past year, said he was tempted to withdraw the cash and emigrate to Barbados.
But he decided to come clean in the hope that bank bosses would agree to make a donation towards new kennels.
"I couldn't believe it when I got the statement and realised all this lovely money was sitting in my account."
A spokesman for Barclays said: "We will obviously have to investigate this but it sounds like some sort of error was made.
"We will consider his request for a donation."
