Oxfordshire's hospitals are to share in more than £300m earmarked for upgrading and repairing buildings.
Health Minister Alan Milburn announced that the National Health Service is to spend £2.2bn across the country on improvements.
A total of £306m is being allocated to hospitals in the new South East NHS region, which will cover Oxfordshire, from January 1.
The money will be used locally to improve hospital casualty and outpatients departments, buy new equipment and help eliminate mixed sex wards.
It is the first stage of a three-year Government plan to inject £8bn into the NHS.
Mr Milburn said: "Modern buildings and equipment are vital if patients are to get the health care they need. Too often in the past, capital investment has played second fiddle to other areas of spending in the NHS."
