Tonight (Wednesday night): Northern Ireland will be largely cloudy with a little drizzle here and there, and towards morning western counties will have some more noticeable rain, but it will be relatively mild. England and Wales will be mostly dry and cold with enough breaks in the cloud to allow some patchy fog and frost in the south and east, but northern and western counties may have a few spots of rain and hill-sleet. Meanwhile, Scotland will be largely dry and cold with a frost, although the south will be more cloudy and a shade less cold with the chance of a little drizzle for a time.

Tomorrow (Thursday): Northern Ireland will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain spreading quickly eastwards, although western counties will slowly clear up later in the afternoon. Western Scotland, west Wales and the extreme west of England will be largely dry and cold at first, but rain will gradually edge in from the west during the day, preceded by snow over the mountains. Meanwhile, central and eastern regions of the UK should be dry with any early patchy fog and frost lifting to leave banks of cloud and a little hazy sunshine.

Outlook for Friday and Saturday: The south and east will stay mainly dry and settled, but it will be cold with a risk of night frosts. The north and west will be milder and more unsettled with rain and strong winds.
