Cat lover Francis Pargeter was horrified to discover that a cat was killed by an air rifle on an Oxfordshire industrial estate.
Miss Pargeter, of Early Road, Witney, regularly feeds two colonies of feral cats on two of the town's estates.
"I had trapped and had most of the adults neutered on the Station Lane industrial estate but there were a pair of beautiful kittens about six months old.
"I fed them last Friday afternoon and they were all fine but when another person who feeds them went down later one of them was dead," said Miss Pargeter.
A vet confirmed the kitten had been shot.
"I think it is horrifying and quite disgusting anyone could do something like this," said Miss Parteger, a member of the Cats Protection League who looks after seven rescued cats at home.
The incident has been reported to police.
