War veteran Arthur Titherington is just days away from a verdict in his battle to get compensation for former Japanese prisoners of war.

The ex-PoW will know on Thursday the outcome of his fight with the Japanese Government.

Judges at the Tokyo District Court are finally preparing to adjudicate on claims for compensation of about £13,000 for each former PoW and their widows.

Mr Titherington, 76, of Church Green, Witney, said: "The case has been going on for five years. During that time, of course, many former victims of Japanese brutality in the last war have died."

The court has heard evidence in three test cases, including Mr Titherington's, which could open the floodgates for millions of pounds of compensation.
