Frugal Lupo is launched
VOLKSWAGEN has unveiled a new little car which it claims can squeeze more than 94 miles out of a gallon of diesel. The automatic Lupo has a new three-cylinder, 1.2-litre diesel engine. It is fitted with a large number of lightweight components and a 34-litre fuel tank which allows it to cover more than 600 miles between refuelling stops. The price and UK launch date has not yet been finalised.

MERCEDES-BENZ has unveiled a unique 30-year anti-corrosion warranty which effectively covers its cars for life. Under the scheme, called mobilo-life, all the company's cars registered from Saturday will also be covered for breakdowns and starting problems for 30 years.

CAR mirror specialists Summit Automotive have launched a new Danger Zone safety mirror which fits on top of the door mirror casing to give the driver a separate image of the blind spot. It sells for about £6.
Safety plea
A WEEK-LONG campaign is highlighting the part motorists can play in reducing deaths and injuries on the roads. The first National Road Safety Week, supported by the Government and many organisations, will feature more than 125 events.
