Pet names
HALF of Britain's drivers have a pet name for their car with Babe leading the way. Sandy Dunn, managing director of insurance firm Touchline which carried out the survey said: "Quite a few motorists chose engaging names like Lovebug, Delightful and Dream machine for their prized possession. At the other end of the scale were the more derogatory names such as Spitzen Fartz and The Devil Pot, as well as a few more unprintable ones." Top ten car names: 1 Babe, 2 Bessie, 3 Connie, 4 Susie, 5 Flossy, 6 Betsy, 7 Dudley, 8 Dream Machine, 9 Sophie, 10 Lovebug.
Safer Polo
VOLKSWAGEN is fitting the Polo 1.0 L with a driver and front seat passenger airbag - prev- iously an option package priced £560 - as standard and at no extra cost. Polos start at £8,290.
Good show
PEUGEOT took more than 5,000 orders for the new 206 as attendance soared at this year's British International Motor Show held at the NEC, Birmingham. A total of 709,422 people visited the show - a 14 per cent rise on 1996.
