Have-a-go hero Adrian Selby was stabbed in the leg after confronting two youths trying to break into his car.
One of the would-be thieves plunged a knife into the back of his leg as Mr Selby, 25, struggled with his accomplice.
The attack happened outside Mr Selby's home in Steventon Road, Drayton, near Abingdon. He had gone to investigate after a neighbour reported seeing two youths inside his Ford Orion.
The father-of-three, who works in the building trade, chased the youths, believed to be about 18, as they ran off.
He caught one of them. But the second man ran back and stabbed him in the leg.
Mr Selby fell into a bush and his attacker tried to bite his ear before being pushed away.
He said: "I didn't realise I'd been stabbed until I got back across the road and I felt something warm on my leg. I put my hand down and saw it was covered in blood."
His wife, Amanda, helped control the bleeding with a towel before an ambulance arrived. Mr Selby was treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
He said: "I'm angry. It gives me the creeps thinking they're out there."
Anyone with information about the incident, which happened late last Thursday, is urged to call police on 01235 776642.
