An Oxford don has criticised a move by publishing giants Penguin Books to axe its series on classic British dramatists in mid-publication.
Dr John Pitcher, a don at St John's College and editor of the series, said the decision left a gap in the range of books.
Four of the Penguin Renaissance Dramatists series had already been published and five more were in the pipeline.
Penguin said the series had not proved popular.
