Hundreds of people attended a fitness exhibition in a bid to get in shape.

The Oxford Health, Beauty and Fitness Exhibition at the Oxford Thames Four Pillars Hotel in Sandford-on-Thames, was organised by Newsquest (Oxfordshire) Ltd, publishers of the Oxford Mail.

Attractions at the luxury four-star hotel on the banks of the River Thames included organised workouts, makeovers and a chance for people to prove their own fitness and win £100. Events included elimination heats on rowing, cycling and running machines in front of a live audience.

The fitness section was sponsored by Oxford's Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre. Event organiser Sally Everton said: "The day was superb and everyone enjoyed it. More than 700 people turned up and we are delighted with the response."

Fifteen people also entered the Mr and Miss Fitness competition for a £100 prize and judges were deciding on the winners last night.

The exhibition was produced by event management company, Rhythm of Life. One section dealt with advice on alternative therapy, including holistic massage, osteopathy, chiropractic treatments and acupuncture.
