Southampton Res 7,
Oxford Utd Res 1
OXFORD United's reserves were totally outclassed by a Saints side which included several players with Premiership experience in last night's Avon Insurance Cmbination game at Southampton's training ground.
The home side were only one up at half-time but then turned it on after the break, scoring at regular intervals.
United's only response was a fine 30-yard free-kick goal by Nicky Banger, when it was already 4-0.
Southampton's team included Ken Monkou, Francis Benali, Scott Marshall, Stuart Ripley and David Hughes, but equally impressive were two Latvian and Portuguese triallists, with the Latvian, Marians Pahars, smashing a hat-trick.
United striker Andy Thomson, returning to action following a broken toe, played the full match for the visitors.
United Res: Jackson, Rose, Shepheard, Whitehead, Whelan, Ricketts, Wright, Folland (Lewis 45), S Weatherstone, Thomson, Banger. Subs not used: R Weatherstone, Henshaw.
