New begins next month on a new £500,000 bus lane aimed at reducing traffic.
The bus lane will run from the Thornhill park and ride to the Headington roundabout on the Oxford-bound carriageway of the A40. It is expected to shave five minutes off journey times by speeding buses through rush-hour traffic.
Cyclists will also be able to use the bus lane.
Noel Hunt, manager of the project for the Highways Agency, said: "This bus lane fits in both with the Oxford Transport Strategy, designed to reduce traffic in the city centre, and the Highways Agency's duty to make the most efficient use of the trunk road network.
"Quicker access to their destinations for users of the park and ride scheme will make it a more attractive option for peak time travel."
Work begins on March 8 for eight weeks.
Two lanes of the A40 will be kept open during working hours to minimise queues.
