The two cases of meningitis at Oxford Brookes University are not connected, tests have shown.
The second student at Oxford Brookes University struck down with meningitis on Wednesday is suffering from the Group B strain of the disease, it was revealed last night.
First-year student Adam Prior, 19, died from meningitis two weeks ago. He was diagnosed with the Group C strain.
An incident team has been meeting twice a day since the second outbreak and 2,000 students given antibiotics.
On Thursday about 2,000 first year students at Oxford Brookes University were given antibiotics to combat the bug and tablets were still being handed out yesterday.
Following last night's result vaccinations will not be necessary at the university.
The incident team is also monitoring a part-time mature student at Oxford College of Further Education who was struck down with suspected meningitis on Thursday.
There has been no news on her condition since she was admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital on Thursday.
