FORD will sponsor the "Journey" Zone at the Millennium Dome - the centrepiece of the UK's Millennium celebrations.

The "Journey" Zone will be one of the major exhibits at the Dome, and will highlight transportation modes through the ages and the future of transport on land, sea and air.

It aims to draw visitors into a deeper understanding of transportation issues by entertaining them, giving information they can use and asking for their opinions. It will also show how each person can take individual actions to enhance ease of travel now and in the future.

Ian McAllister, chairman and managing director Ford of Britain, said: "As Britain's best-selling car company for the past 22 years and commercial vehicle company for a third of a century, Ford understands the need to develop exciting and novel ways to meet the transportation challenges that confront this and future generations.

"Ford's sponsorship of the "Journey" Zone gives the opportunity to explain transportation issues and possible solutions in a fun yet informative way to an expected 12 million visitors in 2000, the overwhelming majority of whom will be from Britain. Our involvement underlines Ford's major presence in Britain since 1904."
