Refugees flooding into Britain from the killing fields of Kosovo could be flown into RAF Brize Norton.
Prime Minister Tony Blair has opened the door to 10,000 refugees and the first are due to arrive by RAF Hercules transport planes. Airbases at Brize Norton or Lyneham, Wiltshire, would be the most likely entry points into Britain.
The hordes of fleeing Albanians will get emergency accommodation in council houses, disused Army barracks or even prisons.
The refugees are among one million Albanians forced from their homes in Kosovo by Serb soldiers involved in ethnic cleansing.
Mr Blair agreed to let them into Britain after seeing heart-rending pictures of starving families. He ordered the Home Office to find housing as the Ministry of Defence began chartering tourist jets to transport the refugees.
