A specialist at Oxford's Warneford Hospital has been given a prestigious award for her pioneering work with adults who stammer, writes Karen Rosine.
Gerda Wilson has been a senior specialist in stammering for 32 years, and has been carrying out successful work in the field at the Oxford hospital.
Now retired, she is one of only four people nationwide chosen to receive The Diana, Princess Of Wales Award for Communication.
The other winner in her category was Yab Dato'Seri Anwar Ibrahim, recent deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, for his work with Unesco on global literacy. The awards are being presented at the Human Communication International conference on April 24 at Leicester University. The conference aims to promote greater awareness of communication issues and the awards are to honour those who have made exceptional contributions to research and practice in communication.
Speech therapist Mrs Wilson worked at the Warneford Hospital until retiring last year.
