The Government's deputy 'Drugs Tsar' Mike Trace has praised Oxfordshire Drug Action Team (Odat).
The team met the UK Anti-Drugs co-ordinator at its fifth annual conference in Abingdon yesterday.
Mr Trace said he was pleased Odat was working to share information between key bodies - from health workers to social services, the police and the voluntary sector, to find a joint solution to Oxfordshire's drugs problem.
He said: "Our strategy wants to focus on prevention and treatment of drug abuse, via a joint approach. "Odat is already doing this. We hope to see results in Oxfordshire very soon."
Mr Trace added: "Oxford's high student population obviously creates a bigger market for the dealers.
" We need to target and disrupt the local market. We need to have people working with police to set up an early warning system, so police can react explicitly."
Mr Trace is deputy to UK anti-drugs co-ordinator Keith Hellawell.
