A woman broke down in tears as her ex-husband and his lover were found guilty of attacking her in front of her young son.

Geraldine Grant wept with relief as a jury at Oxford Crown Court reached its unanimous verdict on James Grant, 48, and Glenys Missen, 39, who both live in Field Avenue, Blackbird Leys, Oxford.

The pair held hands as the verdict was read out. Sentence was adjourned until May 21 for reports.

Earlier the court heard that an argument had begun between Mrs Grant and her ex-husband over some shirts he had left at her house in Kennington. She followed him into the front garden and tried to get the shirts from him. Mrs Grant said: "He then punched me in the face. I think on my left side.

"It was enough to knock me back."

She said she then saw Glenys Missen beside her. Her ex-husband was kneeling astride her and pinning one of her arms to the ground.

Mrs Grant said: "She was to the left. She had my hand and she was pulling my fingers back. It caused me extreme pain. She broke my finger."

Mrs Grant said her youngest son, Fraser, who was eight at the time, was in the garden crying.

Her two older sons ran into the garden and pulled her attackers away. Mrs Grant suffered cuts and bruises, an injured shoulder and a broken finger.

Robert Spencer Bernard, prosecuting, told the court Grant had a previous conviction for smuggling and Missen for violent behaviour in a police station.
