One of Oxfordshire's favourite nightspots is to get a £500,000 facelift, writes Rebecca Smith.
The Park End Club, in Park End Street, Oxford, is to be refurbished and a new sound system installed.
Under the plans, each room will take on a different look to echo differing moods of music. James Hawkins, the general manager, said: "It will have a new sound system and each room will be decorated to reflect the type of music in it."
The main floor will be based mainly on dance music. The second room will be dedicated to party music and the third to soul, swing and R and B and decorated in a north African style. The club will probably be closed in sections while the work is carried out.
Mr Hawkins is also looking at extending the capacity of the club from 900 to 1,200, which would involve putting in another fire exit. He is currently discussing his plans with the fire and police services. Mr Hawkins added that he hoped to attract Radio One DJ Dave Pearce to help launch a new music policy at the club on Thursday nights. The club has also recently appointed a DJ to take over the headline spot on Friday night. Rob B produced top five hits Free For Desire by Gala and Naked in the Rain by Blue Pearl.
The Park End Club has been open eight years and was bought two years ago by Northern Leisure.
