Oxford Utd Res 0, Charlton Ath Res 2 Oxford United Reserves were outsmarted by a skilful Charlton side in last night's Avon Insurance Combination game at the Manor.
The Londoners' quality of passing and movement put them in a different class from the start, and only some excellent tackling by Andrew Rose and Jon Shepheard, plus a faultless display by keeper Paul Reece, kept United on terms at half-time.
Charlton's class was even more evident on the restart and after Charlie MacDonald struck the crossbar, Mark McCannon's header beat Reece and went in off a post in the 63rd minute.
Jamie Cook missed Oxford's best chance six minutes later when he shot too close to the keeper and when the ball was played to the other end, Scott Parker drove in Charlton's second.
United gave a trial to Army left-winger Paul Caufield.
Oxford United Res: Reece, Rose, Ricketts, Wright, R Weatherstone, Shepheard, Cook, Williams (Whitehead 45), Thomson (Richards 45), Folland, Caufield (Hackett 63).
