Green councillor Sushila Dhall has made an appeal on behalf of pedestrians during work for a new transport strategy.
Work has already started to re-route buses to prevent clogging up key Oxford shopping streets, including Cornmarket.
Drivers face diversions on Oxpens Road and roadworks for the new traffic scheme are filling Park End Street. But Cllr Dhall has placed a motion before the county council meeting next Tuesday to call for further provisions to be made for pedestrians.
She wrote: "Much publicity is put out by the council, stating its commitment to pedestrianss. The new walking strategy currently under way emphasises this commitment but conditions for pedestrians at Oxford's station site are worse than they have ever been. "Traffic flows freely and ceaselessly round a roundabout on Park End Street and the pedestrian crossing removed from the bottom of George Street causes pedestrians danger and inconvenience."
Highways bosses have promised that traffic lights will be restored at the junction of Park End Street and Oxpens Road and the roundabout removed, once the strategy is completed.
