WOMEN motorcyclists could soon overtake male bikers as the most skilful riders on the road - and force a change in how bikes are promoted.
More than 15,000 women - almost one in three of all applicants - qualified for motorcycle licences last year, with many choosing to ride sports bikes.
More women than men will be passing their tests at the first attempt by 2001 if the pass rate for women continues to rise at its current rate. Last year more than 60 per cent of women passed their tests, significantly closing the gap on men.
With motorcycle sales at their highest levels for 13 years, many manufacturers are reviewing how to promote their machines to this growing sector.
