FORMER Oxford Cheetahs speedway favourite Simon Wigg is to undergo brain surgery next week.
Wigg, who staged his farewell to British speedway at Oxford in March, suffered what appeared to be two epileptic fits late last year and on his way home from Australia in January.
Now there are hopes that the operation will give him the all-clear.
He goes into the Cromwell Hospital, Knightsbridge, on Tuesday and will stay for five days. This will be followed four weeks' chemotherapy in Northampton.
A philosophical Wigg said: "I have a brain tumour, which is growing very slowly. They should be able to operate, thank goodness.
"It appears I am not an epileptic and it will be a wonderful feeling to get back to full health."
Meanwhile, Wigg is helping Joe Screen in his bid to win the Brish Championship with behind-the-scenes technical help.
