Oxford United fell at the first hurdle in the FA Youth Cup, going down 3-1 to Millwall at the Manor ground last night to give the Londoners victory at senior, reserve and junior level over them in the last eleven days.
Millwall went ahead after 17 minutes through Andreas Karaiskos who shot fiercely past Phil Wilson and 16 minutes later, a bad mistake by the goalkeeper let in Bashri Alimi for the visitors' second.
United playing with a greater determination in the second half pulled a goal back in the 48th minute when Andrew Newton drove in a cross by Chris Hackett.
They were denied an equaliser by David McCartney who made excellent saves from Jamie Brooks and Newton before Byron Bubb blasted a thirty-yard free kick through a defensive wall and past flat-footed Wilson.
