Ten protesters dressed as cows hung a banner from a roof above an Oxford restaurant as part of a demonstration against meat.

They also set up a stall offering free vegetarian nuggets to shoppers outside the Cornmarket Street branch of McDonald's.

The group was trying to promote the virtues of being vegetarian or vegan and accused McDonald's of exploiting animals.

A spokesman said the idea of dressing as cattle was to remind people what they were really eating.
