Oxford United's half-built stadium at Minchery Farm took a step nearer completion today after a High Court judge threw out demands for a review of how permission was granted.
Developers Pentith Ltd had appealed against the decision to give United's owner, Firoz Kassam, the go-ahead for his plans for a hotel and multiplex for the site.
Two years ago Pentith had its own plans for a multiplex cinema, bowling alley, casino, restaurants and pub on the Oxpens site in Oxford thrown out after a public inquiry.
Nick Pentith, managing director of the development company based in Stockport, Cheshire, applied for a judicial review on the decision arguing that his own development should have gone through. But last night a judge rejected their arguments.
The decision came as a relief to Mr Kassam and to United after the shock departure of manager Malcolm Shotton.
Mr Kassam said it was one more step on the road to getting work on the stadium - halted for nearly three years - restarted. The club still hopes to be playing at Minchery Farm next season. Mr Pentith was not available for comment.
