About 30 staff at the Unipart Group of Companies are facing redundancy in the wake of the group's merger.

Management teams, working with the help of worker representatives from every grade level, are now looking at job duplications caused by the merger with Midlands car parts firm Partco.

Next week, staff in some areas will begin to undergo a selection process involving interviews for those jobs that have not been axed.

Redundancies are expected from January next year. A spokesman for Unipart, which has its HQ in Cowley, said: "We have doubled the size of our workforce to about 10,000 and job duplications are inevitable.

"They are being identified across the entire group, not just in Oxford. Where possible, people will be offered redeployment within the company."

She added: "The representatives from every grade level have been appointed to provide another channel of communication for everyone involved.

"The selection process will give staff a chance to say exactly what their aspirations are."
