Plans to develop Oxford United's half-built stadium could be further delayed, writes Andrew Ffrench.

Last week, it appeared that club owner Firoz Kassam would be able to go ahead with his plans for a hotel and a multiplex cinema next to the stadium at Minchery Farm, Oxford.

The breakthrough came after a judicial review judge threw out objections from rival developers Pentith Ltd at a hearing at the High Court.

Two years ago, Pentith had its own plans for a multiplex cinema, bowling alley, nightclub, restaurants and a public house at Oxpens site in the city rejected after a public inquiry. Nick Pentith, the managing director of the Cheshire-based construction and development company, was granted a judicial review on the decision.

The company's arguments were rejected - but it has now appealed against the decision.

John Evans, co-ordinator of supporters' group Foul (Fighting for Oxford United Life), said: "Nick Pentith has appealed right at the last minute.

"This will certainly mean further delays and I know Mr Kassam won't be pleased. This could mean another year at the Manor."

The club is hoping to play at Minchery Farm next season, where work has been halted for nearly three years. A spokesman for the High Court in London confirmed: "Pentith has submitted papers against Oxford City Council which means that there will have to be another hearing.

"There is no date for the new hearing."
