Three prison officers suffered whiplash injuries in a struggle with an inmate following a stabbing incident.
The scuffle happened on the B remand wing at Bullingdon prison when an inmate was stabbed by another with a blunt instrument following an argument over a game of pool on Sunday. He suffered minor cuts to the back of his head.
While attempts were being made to restrain the other prisoner and put him in a segregation wing, the inmate lashed out, and the prison officers suffering neck and whiplash injuries. They are off work and one went to the John Radcliffe Hospital for a check-up. Prison governor Stefan Wawryka said: "When you have 190 prisoners together, these sorts of incidents do take place."
The matter is being investigated internally, but police are carrying out an inquiry into a separate attack on Saturday afternoon. A remand prisoner was slashed with a razor after being accused of being a police informant by other inmates.
Mr Wawryka said the incident had nothing to do with staff shortages or prisoners being kept in solitary confinement for too long.
