A bright idea means children will be safer when they walk to school.
Pupils at North Hinksey Primary School, North Hinksey Lane, Oxford, and Faringdon Infants School, Lechlade Road, Faringdon, have been given bright-yellow luminous footprints to make them more visible to motorists.
Senior road safety officer at Oxfordshire County Council, Mandy Rigault, said: "The county council hasx had these feet specially designed for use by children in Oxfordshire. The feet come in the form of reflective tags that can be attached to pockets, coats and bags. They are particularly useful now the clocks have gone back. "They are widely used in Scandinavia and Denmark, where there are fewer daylight hours and thousands of children travel to and from school in darkness." Maggie Smith, headteacher of Faringdon Infants School, said: "The children are thrilled with their feet.
"As a school we are delight- ed to be taking part in such a worthwhile project to encourage children to walk to school, thereby reducing traffic and making the air cleaner for everyone in Faringdon."
The feet are being issued as part of the county council's Better Ways to School project. They will be used in the Footsteps road safety training scheme for young children.
