POLICE were today hunting a vicious would-be robber who smashed a man's car windows after he refused to give him any money.
The 64-year-old victim was just about to get into his car in Field Avenue, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, just before 2pm yesterday when the masked offender started demanding cash.
When the motorist refused, the thug, who was wearing a green child's coat on his head and a yellow scarf around his face to disguise himself, pulled a cosh out of his coat.
He then started smashing the windows of the man's Ford Escort. Despite being cut by flying glass, the frightened victim still managed to drive away from the scene and report the incident to the police. Detectives later found the coat abandoned nearby.
A spokesman for Oxford Police said: "If anyone knows who owns the coat, then please contact the police immediately to help solve this nasty and vicious crime."
Police said the offender was 5ft 10in, in his mid 20s, and wearing a three-quarter length blue anorak at the time.
Anyone with information should phone Oxford Police on 01865 266333 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number, 0800 555111.
