WITNEY Town manager Andy Lyne has blasted the referee for allowing six minutes of injury time in Saturday's FA Umbro Trophy clash at Heybridge Swifts which saw the Essex club snatch a last-gasp winner, writes RUSSELL SMITH.
Lyne was left fuming after Town bowed out 3-2 in the second-round tie with the winner coming deep into injury time, followed by St Albans referee Mick Russell's final whistle.
Witney's boss said: "This is the first time in 16 years of management that I am as angry as I am about the outcome. I have never spoken out before.
"They are the sole timekeepers, but my argument is that how can you have six minutes when the rules in the FA Trophy say that players have to be treated off the field of play.
"The linesman had signalled a minute and the referee played six and as soon as they scored, he blew up.
"I felt there should have been two or three minutes at the most, but where you find six from I don't know.
Lyne added: "The players put so much effort into it and deserved another crack at it and I feel sorry for them. It is devastating.
