MOTORCYCLISTS are supporting a petition which calls on the Government to introduce legislation which will make biking a safer form of transport.
Bennetts, the leading motorcycle insurance provider, is petitioning the Government to introduce legislation which deals with the cleaning up of potentially life-threatening diesel spillages on the roads.
The Bennetts view has been vindicated by hoards of bikers who agree that legislation needs to be introduced because diesel "was the biggest threat they faced on the road".
Bennetts managing director Michael Bennett, said: "Bennetts understands that while legislation is being introduced to stop diesel spillages occurring, accidents still happen because of the unseen danger posed by spillages once it is on the road.
"A diesel spillage is one of the biggest threats there is to a biker and Bennetts considers it important to make sure legislation is in place which outlines whose responsibility it is to clear a spillage as soon as it occurs."
The Bennetts' "Don't Turn Your Back On Diesel" campaign has the full support of MEP Bill Miller and the British Motorcycling Federation who will use the petition to add weight to the call when it is brought before the Government.
Simon Wilkinson from the BMF said: "While we are actively lobbying to prevent diesel spillages in the first place, they are an unfortunate fact of life, or in some cases death, for the biker so we welcome Bennetts' support in helping highlight the clean-up problem."
