By John Gaisford OXFORD Cheetahs speedway promoter Steve Purchase cheered fans at a supporters meeting.
Speaking to a 300-plus attendance, Purchase said: "I think I am close to being excited.
"Your support has been very encouraging and I think we have got four pretty good riders so far. In Jimmy Nilsen and Todd Wiltshire, we have dual No 1s if you like.
"I don't fear any team this season. I gave Steve Johnston the team captaincy because I believe he is committed to Oxford.
"Roman Povaznhy is a 100 per cent trier and wants to be world champion. Potentially, he is a great asset."
Purchase revealed that he was still trying to secure the services of brothers Ales and Lukas Dryml. He added: "They will bring a breath of fresh air to the sport, but I urge
you to be patient with them they are both young and will become full Oxford
assets." There will be no place in the team this year for Dane Jan Staechmann.
Former Oxford rider Colin Meredith will continue as team manager and track co-ordinator, while season ticket prices were announced at £175 for adults, with families at £350 and concessions £105.
Admission prices are to rise to £10 for adults, £6 concessions, while children are £1.
The Patrons Club at £500 a head has around 30 members so far.
Cheetahs hope to raise plenty of money at the greyhound night at the Stadium on February 29 where race sponsors at £200 and individual greyhound sponsors at £20 are required.
