LEICESTER'S two-goal Wembley hero Matt Elliott - cup-tied when Leicester won the Worthington Cup three years ago - described Sunday's 2-1 win over Tranmere victory as "the biggest day of my career".

But now the former Oxford United centre back is hoping to enjoy a double celebration as his wife Cathy is on the verge of giving birth to their fourth child.

Elliott admitted he had one eye on the possibility of that coinciding with Leicester's third Wembley appearance in four seasons.

He said: "I knew it was a possibility, but I came to some sort of agreement with my wife who said that if nothing had happened by midnight on Saturday, then she wouldn't tell me anything before the game.

"I wanted to be informed but she said she was going to keep it from me anyway.

"I felt reasonably relaxed during the game but I was keeping an eye on her in the stand whenever there was a lull in the action. "It was a slight worry but she was jigging around with the best of them at the end of the game.

"This has been a wonderful day for me and hopefully I've got another wonderful day to come imminently."

Elliott has become a firm favourite with Leicester fans since his £1.6m move in January 1997.

He was sold by current manager Denis Smith, who signed him from Scunthorpe for £150,000 in November 1993.

Elliott's fellow ex-Manor teammate, Phil Gilchrist, who joined the Foxes this season, was on the substitutes bench, but did not come on.
