Home Counties League round-up

Banbury opening batsmen Craig Haupt and Andrew Sabin set new club and league records with a magnificent unbeaten stand of 220 on Saturday.

South African Haupt hit an undefeated 126 and Sabin 73 not out as Banbury stormed to a ten-wicket victory over visitors Luton Town.

It kept them just three points in arrears of leaders High Wycombe.

Neal Radford, the former Worcestershire bowler, also played a major part in the victory with an excellent display of seam bowling to finish with 6-59 off 22 overs, plus two catches. Luton were indebted to a third-wicket stand of 144 in 35 overs between Ollie Clayson (89) and Jerry Page (72).

Only one other batsmen reached double figures and Luton's 66-over total of 219-9 never looked enough.

Haupt and Sabin started in cracking style, with 43 runs coming from the first four overs against a lacklustre attack. And there was no let-up as the big left-hander crashed 20 fours and a six.

Sabin was an ideal foil, helping himself to ten fours along the way.

Haupt faced just 120 balls for his 126 and the openers saw their side home with 13 overs to spare, making it four wins out of five matches so far.
