ROVER has announced that the estate version of the Rover 75 executive saloon will be launched in the middle of 2001, writes David Duffy.
The car, which was developed at Cowley, will be built at Rover's Longbridge plant following the transfer of the Rover 75 assembly lines to Birmingham.
Rover said the switch should be finished by the end of September, resulting in all Rover and MG cars being built in a single plant at Longbridge. Kevin Howe, chief executive of Rover Group, said: "We have a class-leading all-new platform with the Rover 75 and our decision to develop a new estate model demonstrates our commitment to the Rover brand."
He said the estate would offer similar specification to the saloon four engines (1.8-litre, 2.0-litre V6, 2.5-litre V6 petrol and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, manual or automatic transmission) and an extensive range of specifications and options. Key features include a one-piece tailgate, under-floor stowage, integrated loadspace cover and luggage retention nets, lashing hooks and 60:40 split folding rear seats.
