Reckless drivers are continuing to speed on Oxfordshire's roads, according to the latest survey by Thames Valley Police, writes Nick Evans.
More than 150 were stopped throughout the county during week-long checks in May.
Of those, 92 were given cautions and ordered to attend a road safety talk and a further 55 were given fixed-penalty tickets.
Five drivers reported for excess speed may face driving bans. The highest recorded speed was 60mph in a 30mph zone on the Abingdon Road in Didcot.
Checkpoints were set up the A4095 Bicester Road at Kirtlington, the B430 Oxford Road in Weston-on-the-Green and on Marsh Lane, Marston.
All the roads were chosen because of a history of collisions caused by speeding.
The checks were part of the Safer Roads Campaign, a partnership between police, local authorities and the courts. Its aim is to reduce road casualties and to educate drivers about the dangers of driving at excessive speed.
Sgt Ken Antell, who co-ordinated the operation, said: "People must realise that speeding is their problem.
"Many of the drivers we spoke to lived in the area and would be the first to worry about speeding on their street. "No-one wants a race track on their front doorstep, but we cannot enforce the speed limit all the time.
He added: "The responsibility must rest with drivers."
