Skipper Steve Johnston and Mark Lemon go for gold in the Overseas final at Poole on Sunday.
They will be aiming to emulate last year's winner Todd Wiltshire to give Oxford and their own Grand Prix aspirations a boost at the south coast track.
Wiltshire won the event last year and since then he has been a revelation in his first world class competition since 1990 at Bradford, where he finished third behind Per Jonsson in one of the old one-off finals. Johnno has been going great guns for Cheetahs this year and has surpised a few with his attitude and sparkling form. He looks to be a better bet than the out-of-touch Lemon.
However, Lemon is a former Poole rider and should know the Wimborne Road circuit better than anyone.
It would be a big confidence boost for both him and his club if he can display something like his best form.
Favourites for the title must be home rider Scott Nicholls, along with former Pirate Lee Richardson. Martin Dugard and Paul Hurry won't be far away.
The American challenge is led by Sam Ermolenko along with old favourite John Cook, plus Mike Faria and Josh Larsen.
My favourite to land the title is Australian Jason Lyons.
