SEVENTIES super group Showaddywaddy will be top of the bill at a midsummer weekend of fun and entertainment.
Carterton Party 2000, next Saturday and Sunday, will mark not just the Millennium, but also the 100th anniversary of the town.
Other acts will include Stoned Again, The (secret) Police, The New Recruits, chart band Scooch and line-dancing performers The Dean Brothers.
Also attending will be descendants of the town's founding father William Carter. A bust of him will be unveiled during the weekend.
The celebration is being organised by a Carterton's Centenary and Millennium committee, set up by the town council.
Spokesman Kevin Rose said: "This is Carterton's big event. We did not have a big do at New Year's Eve, choosing to go for a big party in the summer instead.
"We are not just celebrating the Millennium, but the 100th anniversary of the founding of Carterton.
"We want it to be a celebration for all the people of Carterton. People from outside might come in, but mainly it's for our own townspeople." A huge covered stage is to be put at one edge of the Alvescot Road recreation ground, with space set aside for stalls, children's amusements and a bar.
A Sunday morning open-air service, in the style of "Songs of Praise," will be led by the Rev Roger Billings.
