Oxfordshire's lifesaving air ambulance service will take to the skies again in a borrowed helicopter tomorrow (June 21) after its own aircraft crashed.
The service, which is run by the Royal Berkshire Ambulance Service in partnership with Oxford Ambulance NHS Trust, has been able to charter a helicopter while its own machine is grounded for major repairs.
Air accident investigators will also need to examine the wreckage as part of the inquiry into the cause of Saturday's crash. Two medical staff on board who were answering a 999 call escaped with minor injuries when the flying ambulance crash-landed near Wokingham after a sudden loss of power. The pilot was unscathed and all have now returned to work.
Royal Berkshire Ambulance Service spokesman Graham Groves said: "The tail rotor and the undercarriage were damaged. The wreckage is still being recovered from the crash site."
