A NEW convertible version of the Nissan Silvia, known as the Varietta, is going on sale in Japan, writes David Duffy.
The turbocharged 2.0-litre car, which was debuted at last year's Tokyo Motor Show drew a very favourable response from visitors, which prompted the decision to bring the car to market. The new Silvia Varietta will be on sale from July.
The four seater Varietta has been designed to alternate between a sports coupe and a convertible. It has a fold-away metal hood, powered by an electric motor, which raises and lowers in about 20 seconds. When down, the top stows away completely into the trunk compartment.
