An exhibition of photographs depicting the activities in a hospital might sound a somewhat gruesome entertainment to offer members of the public, writes Chris Gray.
One can feel reasonably confidence, however, that what might be called the bloodier activities at Oxford's Radcliffe Infirmary will not be dwelt on in a fascinating new show which is opening at the Stables Gallery in Green College on Monday.
The display of pictures is by Wendy Aldiss and depicts health care under the aegis of the Radcliffe Infirmary Hospital Trust. The show aims to represent all aspects of care at the Radcliffe Infirmary over several years.
Wendy Aldiss was photographer in residence for the Radcliffe Infirmary Trust between 1993 and 1995.
Long-scheduled for closure following the concentration of Oxford's hospital services in Headington, the Infirmary still remains active, although its days are numbered.
After the hospital eventually closes Wendy Aldiss's work will be added to the Trust's archive.
Taking place as a Photo Witness exhibition, the show is partly funded by the National Lottery.
The Stables Gallery is open from 10am to 6pm daily until July 8.
