Hi-tech company RM has taken over management of the computer network for all primary schools in Jersey.
RM, of Milton Park, Abingdon, works with schools and colleges as a leading supplier of information communication technology (ICT).
In Jersey, a managed service has been implemented in all of the island's primary schools as well as several secondary schools.
RM was chosen to provide a managed service over three years to all 28 primary schools. Richard Girling, chief executive at RM, said more and more schools were having their ICT handled by outside firms. RM is now remotely managing more than 13,000 desktops across the UK.
The firm is also in talks with Web-based education firm Riverdeep Group over licensing agreements for both companies to license interactive learning software to each other.
Riverdeep is a leading provider of Web-based education solutions in the US through its Web site.
Under the proposed agreement RM would license Living Library to Riverdeep for the US market. Riverdeep would license its flagship on-line Destination Math to RM. Living Library is an on-line reference resource that combines information from sources including the Oxford University Press.
It was recently awarded a Gold Quality Mark by the Parents Information Network, which provides information to parents about the role of computers in their children's education.
