White Horse Harriers' men's team won the Southern Men's League third round fixture at Battersea Park to boost their prospects of promotion from Division 6.
The middle distance events provided the club with rich pickings in terms of points, but the sprinters, throwers and jumpers also held their own against good-quality opposition. Wantage track man Paul Jegou stood out in the A events, comfortably winning both the 800m in 2mins 8.8secs and 1500m (4.29.25) before leading off the Harriers' successful 4x400m relay team.
Clubmate Ben Penfold won the B 800m (2.14.84) and East Hendred's Tim Payne finished second in the 1,500m.
Both the longer events saw White Horse victories, with Peter Wilson winning the 5,000m in a season's best 14.24.27 and Trevor Taylor taking the 3,000m steeplechase in 10.56.05.
Tom King cleared 2.20m for second place in the A pole vault and was also runner-up in the B javelin. Dick Jegou also had a productive afternoon, finishing second in the A discus (24.76m) and third in both the shot (9.35m) and hammer (25.35m).
The next stage of the club's promotion push comes at Oxford's Horspath Stadium on Saturday, July 8.
