A multi-sports play area could be held up for several weeks in a glitch over a will.

The facility aimed at local youngsters was to have been set up on the old tennis courts in Elms Park, Thame.

Agreement had been reached with the late Harold Purser, of The Elms, whose family gave the park to the town in the 1920s. But executors of Mr Purser's will are unhappy about the siting of the area.

They say security of The Elms is threatened and want a new fence and lavatories built.

Thame parks committee chairman Mary Stiles said: "This is most unfortunate. Mr Purser had agreed the siting without any problem.

"We will now have talks with the executors to try to sort out this hitch.

"We have no money in the budget for fencing but we will seriously consider it next year if that satisfies the executors. Lavatories are another matter the last ones there had to be removed because they were constantly vandalised."

Mrs Stiles said she hoped talks could be held quickly and the sports area installed by August.

The multi-sports area has been backed with 25,000 from South Oxfordshire District Council which could be in jeopardy if the delay is too long.
